**Minimum design period is 2 weeks for approval of portable light signals

1. Site approval for Portable Light Signals is required under the Traffic Signs Regulation and General Directions 1994, Regulation 32 and General Direction 47. 

2. Upon receipt of the completed application form, the Highway Authority will, if site approval is required, issue the approval. 

3. It is imperative that at least the minimum advance notice (notice periods given above) is given where design of portable traffic light signals at junctions is required, eg where there is a junction between a set of shuttle working signals or if more than 2 approaches having traffic light control.  

4. The authority must be notified if:

  • Any change is made to the date or the time on application
  • The work is in the vicinity of a zebra crossing or any permanent signals, including pelican, toucan and pegasus crossings.
  • The work is in the vicinity of a Level Crossing. (Network Rail must also be consulted)
